BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team rolled past Salem 8-0 in a non-conference matchup Sunday afternoon at The Bridge Sports Complex.
Â
Concord (4-3-2) opened the scoring rapidly with senior forward
Caitlin Webster smashing home a rebound attempt on the initial attempt by freshman forward
Alana Ferguson in the third minute.
Â
The Mountain Lions doubled their lead in the 13th minute as freshman midfielder
Molly Watters scored her first career goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder
Marika Svensson.
Â
Svensson's first assist of the season kickstarted a torrid first half for the second-year midfielder.
Â
Svensson started her own scoring outburst in the 37th minute with a header assisted by sophomore defender
Ella Rowell.
Â
Less than 90 seconds later, Svensson found the goal sheet again as Ferguson played in a beautiful ball which was easily put away to make it 4-0.
Â
Just 50 seconds later, Svensson chipped the keeper to complete her first hat trick of 2025, and the second of her career in 2:16 of game time.
Â
The Mountain Lions found one more goal before the break as Rowell scored her first collegiate goal from outside the 18-yard box.
Â
In the second half, Concord kept peppering the net but were unable to break through until the last 10 minutes.
Â
A Salem (1-8) own goal in the 82nd minute pushed the lead to 7-0. Junior midfielder
Caitlyn Martin hammered home a ball sent in by sophomore
Taryn Kelly in the 88th minute for her first goal of the season.
Â
CU racked up 40 shots in the game with 29 being on target. The Mountain Lions held Salem without a shot, marking the second time this fall CU has held the opposition without a shot—the other instance was September 17 versus Glenville State.
Â
Concord returns home to Callaghan Stadium to take on Wheeling in a conference tilt 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
