ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team bounced back after a tough loss Friday night with a four-set win over West Liberty Saturday morning in a Mountain East Conference game at the Carter Center.
Concord (19-3, 7-2 MEC) played another tight match for the second straight day, this time coming out with a 3-1 victory, despite winning just one more point than West Liberty (13-11, 6-3 MEC).Â
 The set scores 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 25-22.

Nothing separated the teams through 20 points with the first set tied at 10-10. CU was finally able to gain a cushion after two kills from junior outside hitter

Maddie Stull finished the first set with a team-best five kills.

The second set saw more runs than the first. With the score at 8-7, CU won four straight points behind two kills from junior outside hitter
Meg Williams. Despite the Mountain Lions holding the lead for the majority of the set, the Hilltoppers slowly chipped away until they snatched the lead making it 21-20. CU answered with back-to-back kills from Stull and Williams. And it was Thompson that closed the set by scoring three of the final four points on kills.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the match, the Mountain Lions took a step back in the third set, hitting .086 while the Hilltoppers hit their best, an explosive .393.

Still holding a 2-1 advantage in the match, Concord bounced back in the fourth and started hot. The Mountain Lions got out to a 6-2 behind three early kills from Thompson. But, West Liberty surged past Concord later in the set, taking a 12-10 advantage. Down the stretch it was one of Concord's strengths coming alive, the block. CU came away with three blocks in the last seven points with senior middle hitter

Stull led the way for Concord with 15 kills while hitting .375. Thompson followed up with 14 kills for the second straight match. Williams ended the match with another double-double, finding 13 kills and 16 digs. Anderson also finished in double figures with 10 kills. Junior libero

Paige Richmond set a season-high with her 33 assists.

CU was able to grab the win despite getting outhit. 266-.226 for the match, and had to withstand 25 kills from West Liberty's Ashley Cudnik.

The Mountain Lions start a three-game road stretch, first facing MEC South foe West Virginia State Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
