BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team swept the season series over Mercer County rival Bluefield State with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night at Ned Shott Gymnasium in a non-conference contest.

After dropping the first set, Concord (18-2) settled down and defeated Bluefield State (11-14) in the following three sets. The set scores were 17-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-15.

In the second set, Concord played much better, tying up the match at 1-1. A large part of the success was due to junior outside hitter
Meg Williams who picked up five kills in the second set alone. As a unit, the Mountain Lions limited the errors that bit them in the first while jumping up to 17 kills, a match high for a single set.

Concord really pressed on the gas pedal in the third set, and went on a 6-0 run early to build a 9-3 lead. From that moment on, the Mountain Lion pressed the advantage and didn't surrender the lead. Williams added three kills as she went got up to 12 on the match. Freshman middle hitter
Addison Adkins continued a great performance with five kills in the third set. Junior libero
Allie Davis made some excellent sprawling plays as she collected 15 of her 18 digs in the set.

The Mountain Lions yet again started quickly, as they won three points in a row four separate times, forcing Bluefield State to burn a timeout with the score sitting at 14-6. BSU never got close than eight points again in the set as CU rolled to an 11-point win in closing out the match. Williams put together another excellent set, tallying four more kills to her already splendid outing.

In the opener, Concord committed 11 errors to help Bluefield State win. Adkins started off hot, racking up four kills on just nine attacks.

When Concord led 9-5 in the second set, Williams became part of the 1,000 kill club at CU with one of her 16 kills for the match. She is just the seventh player in program history to reach the elusive 1,000 kill mark.

Williams led the way with 16 kills and picked up her ninth double-double of the season with 16 digs. Junior setter
Paige Richmond also finished with a double-double, notching 23 assists and 10 digs. Davis topped the stat sheet with 18 digs and sophomore defensive specialist
Camille Testerman finished with 12 digs, her second straight game in double digits. Adkins ended the match with 13 kills, one shy of her career high. Sophomore setter
Savannah Davila closed the match with 18 assists, a career high.

The Mountain Lions return home to face Wheeling in a Mountain East cross-divisional matchup Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the Carter Center.
