NEW ORLEANS – Junior Katy Walkup of the Concord University women's cross country team has been selected a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Athlete, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

Walkup, a native of Summersville, West Virginia, earns the distinction for the second time in her career. In the classroom, Walkup is a biology major as she has carried a 3.85 GPA throughout her undergraduate career.

To be named USTFCCCA All-Academic, athletes must carry a 3.25 cumulative GPA and finish in the top 30 percent of their respective regional championship. This past fall, Walkup was Concord's top runner at the Atlantic Regional Championship as she placed 52nd, running a time of 22:32 for the 6,000-meter course at Lock Haven University.
In addition to Walkup's honor, the Concord women's cross country team was named as a USTFCCCA Academic Team. Head coach Mike Cox's crew sported a 3.86 GPA as a team—the fourth highest team GPA in all of Division II.

CU more than qualified for the team award as it only needed a 3.25 GPA.
