FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team were the runners-up at the Fairmont State Invite Monday and Tuesday at Green Hills Country Club.
The Mountain Lions had team scores of 355 and 356 to finish at 711 for the 36-hole competition.
Graduate student
Mary Denny carded an 82 during Monday's first round and came back with a season-best 79 Tuesday to place fifth with a total of 161. She was just three strokes away from a top-three showing. Denny's best stretch of the tournament came on Tuesday's front nine where she fired a +3, 38.
Freshman
Sara Matos Tamargo finished in a tie for 11
th after scores of 87 and 90. Senior
Anna Fry shot rounds of 89 and 91 to total 180, three strokes behind Matos Tamargo. Fry was 13
th.
Freshman
Autumn Bowles recorded a pair of 97s to finish 15
th, and fellow freshman
Alexandria Denny placed 18
th with a two-day total of 199.
Fairmont State won the team competition. Davis & Elkins' Maria Saviceva-Noti was four shots better than FSU's Emerson Simons, 148-152, to earn medalist.
Concord is back in action September 28-29 when they travel to the West Virginia Wesleyan/Glenville State Invite at Raven Golf Club in Snowshoe, West Virginia.
