Concord Prepares for Four Matches at Mount Olive Invite

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team travels to Mount Olive, N.C. to compete in four games at the Mount Olive Invite Friday and Saturday.

HOT HAND
Senior middle hitter Kyndra Pilant got her season off to a fast start at the Colorado Mines Volleyball Classic. The New Martinsville, W.Va. native swung for nine kills and four total blocks against Colorado Miens before smashing 10 kills on a .643 hitting percentage against nationally-ranked Regis. She also hit marks of .273 and .500 against Missouri Western and Colorado Mesa, respectively. In the final match of the tournament against 17th-ranked Colorado Mesa, she recorded seven total blocks, slotting her at third in the Mountain East Conference with 1.08 blocks per set. Also, Pilant is fifth in the MEC sporting a .355 hitting percentage.
 
RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
Sophomore outside hitting duo Chloe Thompson and Meg Williams picked up where they left off from last season. In the season opener against Colorado Mines, Thompson and Williams notched double-doubles, a stat they tied for the team lead in 2023. Thompson hit for 15 kills on a .256 hitting mark and added 11 digs. Williams clubbed 12 kills on a .250 percentage and collected 14 digs. Thompson also logged 11 kills against Colorado Mesa and three total blocks. Both Thompson (37) and Williams (32) lead the Mountain Lions in kills through four games.
 
DIGGIN' IT
Just like her first collegiate game last season, sophomore defensive specialist Allie Davis got the year started with a 20-dig performance. The Jonesborough, Tenn. native had 21 digs in the first contest of the fall against Colorado Mines, tying her for the sixth-most in a single game in the MEC early in the season. Overall, Davis ranks fourth in the league in averaging 3.77 digs per set. She had at least 10 digs in three out of the four matches played in Colorado last week.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
The Bears swept their season-opening tournament over opponents nine sets to zero. Shaw owns the nation's 13th-best hitting percentage (.307) and own the top four individual leaders in hitting percentage in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bears are the reigning CIAA tournament champions and won an NCAA Tournament game over MEC foe Wheeling. Shaw also leads Divison II serving 3.67 service aces per set.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Lenoir-Rhyne comes off an impressive start at the Fairmont State Volleyball Classic, winning all four games plus a home contest against Coker. Junior right side Kayli Cleaver leads the Bears with 59 kills on the season and ranks third in the South Atlantic Conference hitting 3.28 kills per set. Defensively, sophomore middle hitter Averie Dale leads the SAC and is top-50 nationally averaging 1.28 blocks per set.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS
Senior outside hitter Ashlyn Stone notched a double-double in UMO's season opener against Catawba with 14 kills and 10 digs. Stone also has four service aces through two games played this fall. Sophomore setter Lyndsay Reid leads the Trojans with nine aces through two contests to fuel Mount Olive's conference-leading 2.50 aces per set.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS
Sophomore outside hitter Makayla Neelands ranks inside the top 10 in the country in points per set (5.40) due to her contribution of 4.33 kills per set and 0.73 aces per set. Senior outside hitter Jessica Hardin also hit for 3.07 points per set in Edinboro's opening weekend including a 15-kill performance against Shepherd. Senior defensive specialist Carly Pry also had an impressive showing against Shepherd, finishing with 27 digs and two aces.
