CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Concord University baseball team lost two games of a doubleheader against Mountain East Conference opponent and 22
nd-ranked Charleston at the Welch Athletic Complex Sunday.
Concord moves to 24-18 on the season and 14-12 against MEC completion, while Charleston improves to 36-7 and 23-3 in MEC action.
Game One: Charleston 2 - Concord 1
A late Golden Eagles rally lifted UC to a game-one victory.
Freshman pitcher
Jake Robinson and Charleston's Trace Hartman were locked up in an early pitcher's duel. Robinson stranded five on base over the first four innings, but also tallied three strikeouts in his first 12 outs of the game.
With the game scoreless heading into the fifth inning, Concord struck first. Junior infielder/pitcher
Brendan Brady got the frame started with a leadoff infield single. After a sacrifice bunt from junior infielder
Tyson Burke, Brady moved into scoring position with one out. Following a pair of wild pitches, Brady came around to score to break the tie.
The Golden Eagles were held at bay until the bottom of the seventh, when CU plated two runs to take game one, 2-1.
Robinson pitched 6.0 scoreless innings for Concord, only surrendering five hits and struck out five UC hitters. Junior utility
MJ Hunter (0-2) took the loss on the mound.

Michael Dupont picked up extra-base hits in the game, with Brady and Burke adding singles.
Game Two: Charleston 10 - Concord 4
The Mountain Lions struck first in game two, but were unable to secure the doubleheader split.
Hunter walked to begin the contest which was followed by a single from graduate infielder
Daniel Layne that moved Hunter to third. Then, Jamison hit a sacrifice fly out to right field and gave Concord an early 1-0 lead.,
However, Charleston responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, as well as another run in the third to jump into the lead, 4-1.
In the fourth inning, Dupont and sophomore utility
Dawson Gragg reached base on a pair of UC errors with two outs. Following a walk by Brady to load the bases, Burke promptly cleared the bags with a three-run double into left field to knot the game 4-4.
Two more runs in the bottom of the fourth gave the Golden Eagles the lead back, 6-4.
CU could not overcome more Charleston runs in the sixth inning, eventually falling 10-4.
Freshman outfielder/pitcher
Demario Faison (2-1) took his first loss of the season, allowing two earned runs across two innings pitched.
Burke and Jamison combined to drive in all four CU runs. Hunter reached base twice, drawing two walks.
The Mountain Lions wrap up their 2024 schedule with a series against Glenville State starting Friday at Anderson Field at 1:00 p.m.
