CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team went 1-1 in a pair of games with 15
th-ranked Charleston Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at the UC Softball Field.
 
Concord moves to 19-15 and 6-6 in MEC play, which is tied for second place in the MEC South Division. Charleston is now 25-2 and 13-1 in MEC games.
 
Game 1: #15 Charleston 13 – Concord 2 (Five Innings) 
UC plated six runs in the first inning and never looked back in the 13-2 win.
 
Redshirt freshman outfielder 
Sophia Conger led off the third inning with a hit for CU. Junior infielder 
Kylee Stacy followed with a single of her own. After a groundout moved the runners up a base, junior infielder 
Courtney Raines singled to score both Conger and Stacy as CU still trailed 6-2.
 
Charleston scored seven more runs in the bottom half of the third and closed out a game one victory in the fifth, 13-2.
 
Sophomore pitcher/infielder 
Madison Hollis (7-8) was given the loss as she gave up seven hits and six runs in the circle.
 
Game 2: Concord 6 - #15 Charleston 5
Despite jumping ahead early in the game, it was a sixth inning rally that secured the win for Concord.
 
Stacy started the game off with a triple. After reaching base on an error, senior outfielder 
Imani Campbell stole second to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Then, Raines delivered a two-RBI base hit allowing Concord to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
 
Conger doubled in the second inning, followed by a bunt single from Stacy. Then, Stacy swiped second for her 18
th stolen base of the season, scoring Conger on the throw, pushing the advantage to 3-0.
 
The Golden Eagles scored in back-to-back innings to take a 5-3 lead into the sixth.
 
Freshman infielder 
Kendall Morgan got the top of the sixth started with a double. Sophomore catcher 
Morgan Gleason followed with a bunt single, moving junior outfielder 
Delaney Fulk, Morgan's pinch runner, to third. Junior outfielder 
Kayla McCraw reached base on a fielder's choice, scoring Fulk to close UC's advantage to 5-4. Following a walk by Conger, Stacy slapped an RBI single to tie the game 5-5. McCraw scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.
 
Despite leadoff singles from Charleston in the sixth and seventh frames, senior pitcher 
Nancy-Jo Roberts shut down the Golden Eagles offense across the final three innings to secure a game two win.
 
Roberts (9-5) pitched all seven innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs.
 
Stacy (three) and Raines (two) picked up multiple hits and drove in one run each.
 
Stacy is now second in the conference with a .531 batting average against MEC competition this season.
 
CU hosts Emory & Henry in a non-conference doubleheader at the CU Softball Field Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m.
