Concord Picks Up 84-74 Road Win at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Concord University men's basketball team pulled away from Frostburg State in the second half on its way to an 84-74 win inside Bobcat Arena in a Mountain East Conference contest.

With the game tied for the sixth time, 38-38, and less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Concord (13-4, 9-4 MEC) clamped down on the Bobcats (2-18, 2-11 MEC) over the final 4:51 of the first half to lead 46-38 at halftime.

The 8-0 scoring run to end the first half was paced by back-to-back three-pointers from junior guard Corey Boston and senior guard JJ Harper as well as a dunk from freshman guard Georges Archer.

The scoreless drought for Frostburg State continued into the second half as Concord built a 50-38 lead with 18:11 remaining after a layup from fifth-year senior forward Jevon Laidler.

FSU was, however, able to climb back to within 54-48. But, that's when the Mountain Lions began to assert their authority on the game.

Over the next six minutes, Concord ran off a 17-8 run that elevated the lead to a game-high 15 points, 71-56, with 8:14 left. The lead swelled to as much as 17 points, 77-60, after another dunk, this time courtesy of freshman forward Boubacar Djigo, at the 4:48 mark.

Frostburg State got as close as seven points in the waning stages of the game, but CU was able to close out the double-digit win.

In the first 15 minutes of the game, neither team led by more than four points as the first half featured 11 lead changes to go with the six ties.

Concord put five players in double figures and seven players scored at least seven points in the contest. Harper was an efficient 6-for-10 from the floor for his 15 points. He added a game-best eight rebounds/ Sophomore forward Rene Diop dropped in 12 points. Laidler netted 11 points. Archer and Boston both scored 10 points off the bench.

Senior guard Jordan Wooden went for nine points and seven rebounds to match Archer on the boards. And sophomore guard Kollin Tolbert did a little bit of everything with seven points, six rebounds and five assists.

CU had to survive 13 three-pointers from Frostburg State in the win, but Concord evened out the game by owning a commanding 46-28 advantage in rebounding.

The Mountain Lions also held FSU to 39.7 percent shooting while making 47.8 percent (32-for-67) of their own field goals.

Concord travels to Bluefield State to take on its Mercer County rival 7:30 p.m. Monday.
