INSTITUITE, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team lost to West Virginias State 3-0 in the semifinal round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament at the Walker Convocation Center Friday evening.
CU's season comes to an end at 17-16 overall sported a 9-6 record against MEC competition. The final set scores were 22-25, 18-25, 18-25.
Set 1
Senior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant kicked off the match with a kill to get the scoring going. The Mountain Lions and Yellow Jackets traded points to begin the match, relying on four kills from sophomore outside hitter
Meg Williams that tied the match at 13-13. Then, a block from sophomore right side
Natalie Brown and
Jasmine Anderson gave the Maroon and Gray the lead. Two kills from sophomore outside hitter
Chloe Thompson kept CU within one, but WVSU took a 1-0 lead, 25-22.
Set 2

Natalie Brown gave Concord a 4-1 lead early on. A pair of blocks and a kill from Anderson extended the advantage to 8-3. West Virginia State regained control of the set, but Pilant answered with back-to-back kills to knot the frame, 12-12. Williams smashed two kills as the game winded down and WVSU took a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3
Concord grabbed another early edge as Williams served two aces and Pilant connected on a kill to jump in front 5-1. Thompson and Anderson held off an impending Yellow Jackets run lead by two, 9-7. Both teams traded points as the set was tied at 14-14, but West Virginia State scored four unanswered points to build its margin. Thompson, Williams, and Pilant swung for kills down the stretch, but WVSU was able to complete the sweep.
Match Stats
Williams led CU with 11 kills in the match on a .318 hitting percentage. Pilant hit for nine kills on 15 attempts with no attack errors (.600). Anderson led the charge defensively, swatting four blocks followed by Brown with three. Sophomore setter

Rylee Wise added 13 assists.
