CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team fell in the Mountain East Conference Championship Game to Charleston, 3-1, Sunday evening at the Welch Athletic Complex.
Charleston (18-1-1) netted a goal in the ninth minute as the Golden Eagles controlled the early run of play. Thanks in part to three first-half saves by junior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill, the Mountain Lions (15-3-2) kept the deficit at 1-0.
The best chance of the first half for CU came in the 29
th minute when junior defender
Ted Roberts delivered a corner kick that hit the back of the net, however, Concord was whistled for offsides and the margin remained 1-0.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles added goals less than two minutes apart in the 60
th and 62
nd minutes to take command of the game.
The Mountain Lions, though, got back in the game in the 69
th minute when Roberts delivered a cross back into the box after a failed clearance on an initial corner kick from Roberts. The cross found junior forward
Richard Henry for his fifth goal of the year.
Henry had another look at goal in the 76
th minute, but was denied as UC held on for the win. Henry had all three shots on goal for the Mountain Lions while senior midfielder
Raheem Baptiste fired a shot off target.

Nathan Scargill stopped a career-best seven shots.
Ranked in the eighth in the final Super Region One Rankings, Concord awaits to see if it qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament when the field is unveiled 6:30 p.m. Monday on NCAA.com
