DANIELS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's golf team finished fourth at the Mountain East Conference Championship that concluded Wednesday afternoon at the Resort at Glade Springs Cobb Course.
The team title went to the wire with Glenville State edging Charleston by one stroke over the three-round competition (943-944). Concord had scores of 397, 393 and 401 to finish at 1,191. The Mountain Lions held off West Virginia Wesleyan by one stroke for fourth.
The fourth-place finish for CU is the highest team finish at the MEC Tournament in program history dating back to 2013, and the best conference championship finish since a runner-up showing in 2012.
Graduate student
Mary Denny tied for 16
th after a three-round score of 262 (89, 82, 91). Denny birdied the par-5, 12
th in the first two rounds and carded 18 pars throughout the tournament. Senior
Anna Fry rose three places from Tuesday to Wednesday as she finished 23
rd with a total of 299.
Fry sank a birdie on the short par-3, 147-yard 13
th hole during Wednesday's round.
Freshman
Sara Matos Tamargo fired a total of 308 as she placed 24
th. Fellow freshmen
Autumn Bowles (324) and
Alexandria Denny (327) were 27
th and 28
th.
Glenville State's Kerri-Anne Cook made a late charge Wednesday to capture the individual title by three strokes over UC's Lucia Martin and Mari Filippa Larsen (229-232).
Wednesday wrapped up the fall season for the Mountain Lions. All-Mountain East Conference awards are determined by scoring averaging at the MEC Tournament as well as two rounds of the MEC Spring Classic.
