VICTORIOUS IN FIVE
For the first time since the 2016 season, CU defeated Charleston 3-2. Friday's victory snapped a 16-game losing streak against the Golden Eagles and kept Concord's undefeated home record intact (5-0). Sophomore outside hitter
Meg Williams hit for five kills to win the opening set, something CU had not accomplished against UC since the 2021 spring season. Williams (15), sophomore outside hitter
Chloe Thompson (13), and senior middle hitter
Kyndra Pilant (12) all swung for double-digit kills in the win. As a team, Concord recorded 14 total blocks, the most since last October at Fairmont State. Pilant led the way with a new career-high of nine blocks, the most in a single game since Camryn Huber's nine blocks against Fairmont State in 2018.

RIGHT BACK AT YA
With the Mountain Lions' 14-block performance Friday, as well as eight blocks in a road contest with UVa.-Wise Saturday, CU moved up to fourth in the MEC averaging 2.0 blocks per set. Pilant ranks third in the conference swatting 1.08 blocks per set. Sophomore middle hitter
Jasmine Anderson (0.78) and sophomore right side
Natalie Brown (0.72) fall just outside the top 10 in the league in blocks per set but have contributed at least eight blocks each in conference action. Freshman right side
Maddie Stull has also chipped in, logging two blocks in three of her last four matches. The Mountain Lions have put up double-digit blocks in four contests this fall, just one performance shy of matching their total a season ago. West Virginia Wesleyan heads into Tuesday allowing the third-fewest blocks in the conference and held CU to just three blocks in 2023.
Â
RUN IT BACK
CU and Davis & Elkins have already met this season in non-conference action at the Concord Classic. The Maroon and Gray closed out the Senators 3-0 in their first trip to Athens and held D&E to a .045 hitting percentage, the lowest allowed by the Mountain Lions this season. Concord served up eight aces led by sophomore setters
Declyn Tooze and
Paige Richmond with three aces each. Out of CU's 13 blocks in the game, Pilant had a hand in seven. The 13 total blocks are the most by any MEC team in a three-set match this season. The Mountain Lions will defend a five-game winning streak against D&E dating back to 2022, as well as having won 15 straight sets.
