SEEK A SCORE
In a 4-1 loss at Shaw Wednesday, freshman midfielder
Kyle Gordon scored in the 86
th minute. It was his second goal of the season. Even in two losses and two ties this fall, Concord has scored in all eight games—the longest scoring streak for the Maroon and Gray since scoring at least one goal in the first eight games of the 2009 season. Paced by the four goals from sophomore forward
Syrus Conolly, who is third in the MEC in goals, the Mountain Lions have nine goal scorers already in eight games. Last year, Concord only had seven goal scorers for the entire season.
BREAK OUT THE BROOMS
Last year was the first time Concord had opposed Salem in five years, but CU swept the season series from the Tigers with 3-0 and 2-1 wins. The 3-0 victory was the first game for second-year head coach
Alex Smith at Concord. Senior forward
Fabian Amhof assisted on the third and final goal. The Hitzkrirch, Switzerland native added two more assists at Salem as he helped out on the game-winning goal in the 75
th minute. In the 2-1 win, Concord was outshot by the Tigers, 17-11.
CHANCE FOR HISTORY
The Mountain Lions have won the last two games versus Wheeling and have picked up at least a point in the last four contests against the Cardinals. On September 22, CU scored the final two goals in a 3-1 win. Junior defender
Ted Roberts had the game-winning goal in the 37
th minute while junior midfielder
Darian Bradshaw tacked on an insurance goal in the 78
th minute. Conolly also scored one of his four goals this fall in the eighth minute. Amhof has scored in two of his three career games against the Cardinals, including the game winner in a 3-2 win last year. While the Mountain Lions have gone 3-0-1 versus Wheeling in the last four meetings, Concord will have a chance to defeat WU three straight times for the first time in program history Wednesday.
