ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University football team was edged by Glenville State 24-21 Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Callaghan Stadium.
The Mountain Lions (0-7, 0-5 MEC) went into halftime up 14-10 after GSU (3-4, 3-2 MEC) kicked a 34-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. Concord's two touchdowns came over the final 7:24 of the first half.
Senior running back
JQ Brown found his way into the endzone from two yards out at the 7:24 mark of the first half as he capped a six-play, 80-yard drive that included him ripping off a 37-yard run.
After Glenville State drove the length of the field to even the game at 7-7 with 3:46 remaining in the first half, Concord had an answer. Brown's 59-yard rush pushed Concord inside the red zone where graduate quarterback

Out of the locker room, the Mountain Lion forced a GSU three-and-out, and Concord wasted no time as Brown raced 80 yards for a touchdown on CU's first place of the second half to push the lead to 21-10.
The Mountain Lions could not take advantage of an interception by junior defensive back
Khwan Mickens later in the third quarter as Concord committed its own turnover just outside the red zone. Glenville State turned the takeaway into points to cut the margin to 21-17 with 2:44 left in the third. Â
Glenville State took its first lead of the game at the 13:01 mark of the fourth quarter after an eight-play, 58-yard drive.
A Concord takeaway on the next GSU drive turned into a short field for the Maroon and Gray, but resulted in a blocked field goal with 6:51 remaining in the quarter. Concord's defense answered the bell with a stop on downs, setting up a possible game-winning drive.
CU marched down to the Glenville State 29-yard line, but back-to-back negative plays took Concord out of field goal range and an eventual turnover on downs.
Brown was outstanding on the ground as he rushed for 206 yards on 17 carries while scoring twice. Freshman wide receiver
Marcus Striggles hauled in six catches for 69 yards.

Jacorey Jackson led the way with eight tackles apiece. Jackson pitched in a sack.
The Mountain Lions outgained GSU 397-345, but was unable to overcome four turnovers.
Concord travels to West Virginia Wesleyan 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26.
