ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team needed just one goal to down Point Park, 1-0, Wednesday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference clash at Callaghan Stadium.
In the 12
th minute, CU (6-5-1, 5-3-1 MEC) broke through as senior defender
Leah Fleming threaded a pass to senior forward
Sydney Tucker who slipped past the last defender as well as the Point Park (2-7-3, 1-6-1 MEC) goalkeeper for her tenth goal of the season.
Tucker is now tied for the conference lead in goals, having scored in four straight games.
The Mountain Lions had ample opportunities to add to the lead. Freshman forward
Ailsa Swinburne had two chances—in the 16
th and 33
rd minutes—but was stopped by PPU's Reese Cauthen. Freshman midfielder
Marika Svensson pushed a shot towards goal in the 42
nd minute, but was the attempt was saved.
Concord did have to withstand a couple chances by the Pioneers in the 62
nd and 63
rd minutes as a free kick from 25 yards out sailed high and a second attempt in the run of play was missed.
Directly after the two PPU chances, Tucker had a pair of shots blocked and a third attempt by freshman midfielder
Lilly Lucas was saved.
In all, Concord outshot Point Park, 16-6, with a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Tucker took five shots with her only shot on goal being the 12
th-minute score. Swinburne attempted four shots and Svensson added three.

Maddie Loughborough saved two shots for her second solo shot of the year.
The Mountain Lions travel to West Liberty 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
