AHEAD OF PACE
The Mountain Lions picked up their sixth win of the season at Wheeling Wednesday night. During the 2023 season, Concord won eight games, but the sixth win of the season did not come until the 13
th game of the year. In the win at Wheeling, sophomore forward
Ignacio Alvarez Maina became the first Concord player with a two-goal game this season as he netted his third and fourth goals of the season in the first half. Additionally, Alvarez surpassed his goal total of last year when he scored three goals. As a team, CU is one goal away from matching last year's total of 25.
EVENLY MATCHED
Saturday's game at Frostburg State is a matchup of the second and third place teams in the conference standings. CU starts the weekend with 17 points while Frostburg State is holding off Davis & Elkins for third place with 13 points to D&E's 11 points. When the Mountain Lions and Bobcats matched up in Athens less than two weeks ago, Concord needed an 89
th-minute goal from junior forward
Richard Henry to earn a crucial point versus FSU in a 1-1 draw. Frostburg State's goal came on a first-half penalty kick. After Frostburg State defeated CU 1-0 in last year's first game, the Maroon and Gray caught fire with a 3-0 win over FSU in early October 2023. Senior forwards
Fabian Amhof and
Carlos Zuniga were responsible for two of the three goals.

ON THE RIGHT FOOT
Concord got off to a 1-0 start for the second straight year after defeating Point Park, 2-1, in the first game of the 2024 campaign. CU scored two first-half goals, a 14
th-minute strike, by sophomore forward
Syrus Conolly before junior midfielder
Malher Santi Possu chipped in a goal in the 40
th minute on an assist by Henry. Point Park did score in the 90
th minute off a penalty kick. Even though junior goalkeeper
Nathan Scargill did get beat on a PK at Point Park, Scargill saved a penalty kick at Wheeling Wednesday. He also earned his first career assist on Alvarez's first goal. The September 8 meeting between CU and PPU was the first in program history.
