WINGATE, N.C. – The Concord University baseball team dropped a 10-1 contest to Wingate Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Ron Christopher Stadium.
Wingate (13-7) scored two runs in the bottom of the second, but freshman pitcher
Evan Hosey (0-2) induced a groundout to keep the deficit at 2-0.
A leadoff single from junior infielder
Michael Dupont got the Mountain Lions' offense going in the top of the third. Two errors by the Bulldogs pushed Dupont into scoring position as he came in to score on a sacrifice fly from graduate outfielder
Josh Adkins.
Junior infielder
Zack Saryeldin doubled during the next at-bat, but the margin stayed at 2-1 for Concord (4-11).
Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, WU scored twice in the frame and added a sixth run in the fifth.
Hosey tossed 2.2 innings as he allowed three innings. Junior pitcher
Eddie Blake struck out four in 2.1 innings of relief.
Adkins had CU's RBI. Dupont and Saryeldin both had hits.
Concord will be off until it starts Mountain East Conference play March 18 versus Frostburg State.
