Concord Clipped in Twinbill at Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team lost a pair of one-run games, 1-0 and 2-1, to Glenville State Wednesday night in Mountain East Conference play at Doug Morris Field at the Sue Morris Complex.

Game 1: Glenville State 1 – Concord 0 (Eight Innings)
A bases-loaded hit by pitch in the bottom of the eighth was the difference in the game.

Sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Bauer escaped a bases-loaded situation with one out in the bottom of the sixth with a strikeout and a groundout to third. And the Lexington, North Carolina native was able to navigate around runners at first and third with one out in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings.

However, a pair of walks and an error loaded the bases for Glenville State (12-14, 5-5 MEC) in bottom of the eighth inning before the hit by pitch gave GSU the narrow win.

Concord's (10-21, 1-9 MEC) best chances to score came in the third and fifth innings as senior outfielder/catcher Jolie Privett moved to second after a one-out single in the third, and a two-out double from freshman catcher Lorelai Ellerby put her in scoring position in the fifth.

Along with Ellerby and Privett, sophomore infielder Courtney Raines was 1-for-3 in the game.

Bauer (2-6) tossed seven innings as she recorded seven strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits.

Game 2: Glenville State 2 – Concord 1
A late comeback from CU stalled out in the nightcap as the Mountain Lions were edge for the second straight game.

The Pioneers scored in the first and third innings to go up 2-0.

After a leadoff single sophomore pitcher/outfielder Rachael Koller in the fourth, she was pinch run for by sophomore infielder Chloie Casto who promptly stole both second and third bases. With one out, Ellerby came through with an RBI single to slice the lead in half. The rally, though, was snuffed out by the Pioneers.

Over the final three innings, Concord was unable to get a runner on base.

Sophomore pitcher Nancy-Jo Roberts (5-11) tossed six innings as she struck out five and scattered six hits and two runs.

Ellerby finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk.

CU starts a season-long 10-game homestand 1:00 p.m. Saturday versus West Virginia State.
