Athens, W. Va. -Â The Concord University softball team piled up 22 runs in a sweep of Bluefield State, winning 7-1 and 15-0, Friday afternoon at the CU Softball Field in non-conference action.
Concord improves to 7-12 while BSU falls to 3-14.

Game 1: Concord 7 – Bluefield State 1
Going into the fifth with a score of 0-0, the Mountain Lions pulled together a solid inning starting with a leadoff walk to sophomore utility

Freshman infielder
Lacie Lewis laid down a bunt and beat it out as Stacy advanced to third on an errant throw.Senior infielder
Sarah Thompson put down another bunt advancing Lewis to second. The next batter in the inning was freshman infielder
Morgan Cline who hit a shot over the wall in right field making it a 3-0 game.
CU added two more runs in the fifth as sophomore pitcher/outfielder
Rachael Koller singled in a run. Thompson hit a home run to right center field to score two in the sixth.

Sophomore
Nancy-Jo Roberts (4-7) got the nod going into game one. Roberts threw a complete game while giving up just one earned run on six hits, and adding six strikeouts to her season total.
Koller had a 3-for-3 day at the plate with three base hits and an RBI.
Thompson reached base three times with two walks and her third home run of the year. Cline ended game one with a 1-for-3 line with three RBI on the home run.
Stacy and Lewis finished with a hit each with Lewis scoring twice..

Game 2: Concord 15 – Bluefield State 0
Concord came out in game two with a bang, scoring ten runs in the bottom of the first. Already up 5-0 Lewis drove in two runs on a single to center field, and Thompson followed with a two-run double to score Stacy and Lewis. Cline came up and continued the scoring fest with with a single up the middle to plate Thompson and make it a 10-0 lead. Over the next three at-bats Concord added five more runs.
Thompson ended game two with a 2-for-2 line, hitting a double in the left center gap and a single. She reached base all five times in the doubleheader as BSU pitching was unable to retire her.
Lewis, Thompson, and Koller all ended the game with two RBI.
Freshman catcher
Lorelai Ellerby got on base all three of her plate appearances.
The Mountain Lions only had nine hits, but drew eight walks by Bluefield State.
Koller (3-3), along with her offense allowed just two hits, while striking out four in four innings in the circle.
Concord's 15 runs were the most in three seasons when they scored 15 against the University of Upper Iowa March 2020.
CU begins Mountain East Conference play next Saturday, March 18
th at Charleston.
