Athens, W.Va. –The Concord University softball team went 1-1 against Tusculum, losing 5-0 and winning game two by a score of 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at the CU Softball Field.
Game 1: Tusculum 5 – Concord 0
Tusculum came out strong putting up five first inning runs, but was shut down for the rest of the game by sophomore pitcher
Caitlyn Bauer after she came on in relief.
Bauer finished the game pitching seven scoreless innings with a total of nine strikeouts while only allowing three hits. Senior infielder
Sarah Thompson ended the game with two hits, while sophomore infielder
Kylee Stacy and senior catcher/outfielder
Mikayah Pulliam both added a hit themselves.
Game 2: Concord 4 - Tusculum 3
Concord erased deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 in the final three innings to collect a walk-off win against Tusculum in the nightcap.
With the Mountain Lion offense scoreless through five, sophomore outfielder
Delaney Fulk blasted her first career home run in a Maroon and Gray jersey to go bring it within one, 2-1.
Thompson drew a walk two batters later, advanced to second on a wild pitch and was driven home by freshman first baseman
Morgan Cline to tie the game.
With the score still tied at 2-2, Tusculum scored a run in the top of the seventh to go up one.
Pulliam led the bottom of the seventh off with a walk. Juinor outfielder
Imani Campbell, pinch running for Pulliam, advanced to third on a Fulk bunt. Stacy's bunt then loaded the bases. Still with no outs Thompson kept the line moving with a single to tie the game. With a chance to win the game, Cline grounded a single through the right side to plate Fulk for the winning run.
The trio of Cline, Fulk, Thompson all had two hits. Cline drove in two runs. Sophomore infielder
Courtney Raines recorded her first double of the season.
Sophomore pitcher
Nancy-Jo Roberts (1-1) got the start in the circle for game two. After giving up one run in the first, Roberts settled in and threw three scoreless innings. Roberts ended the game giving up just three earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout.
