Concord Wraps Up Regular Season at Glenville State

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team concludes its 2023 regular season with a road trip against Mountain East Conference South Division foe Glenville State Friday at 7:00 p.m.

DIGGIN' IT
Friday's match will pit two of the MEC's best liberos in Concord's freshman defensive specialist Allie Davis and Glenville State's fifth-year defensive specialist Lindsay Winkler. As a freshman, Davis has started and played in all 104 sets in 29 games for the Mountain Lions this season. She ranks fifth in the MEC averaging 4.37 digs per set. Davis has seven 20-dig games in 2023 including a career-high of 29 digs against King (TN) back on October 25 and has recorded at least 10 digs in seven straight games. Winkler has spent all five years of her collegiate career at GSU. Earlier this season, she eclipsed 1,000 digs in her career and ranks 10th in the conference in digs per set (3.39). Winkler has also started in 27 of 28 games this season for the Pioneers.
 
ROAD BLOCK
Over its last five contests, CU has tallied block totals of 10, nine, eight, four, and a season-high of 14 blocks against Fairmont State. In that span, senior middle hitter Csayjah Whitelow has led CU with 24 assisted blocks, while senior middle hitter Kyndra Pilant has assisted on 16 blocks while also collecting three solo blocks. Freshman right side Natalie Brown (11) and freshman outside hitter Meg Williams (10) also have assisted on double-digit blocks over the last five games. Freshman middle hitter Meagan Poticher recorded her career-high of six total blocks against Fairmont State. Glenville State's Katerzyna Niderla ranks 51st in Division II with 1.00 blocks per set, good for fourth in the MEC. Niderla had two blocks against CU earlier this season and has 14 blocks in her last six games played.
 
PREVIOUS MATCHUPS
The Mountain Lions swept the Pioneers earlier this season in the Carter Center during the Concord Triangular. Freshman outside hitter Chloe Thompson swung for 16 kills in the match on a .517 hitting percentage. CU tied its season-high for service aces in a match against GSU with 11 aces in the match. Freshman setter Paige Richmond tied the program record with eight service aces in the game. Senior right side Reese Turner and Pilant each collected four total blocks in the contest.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Niderla is second in the MEC in hitting percentage (.336) and blocks per set (1.00). When the Mountain Lions and Pioneers met earlier this season, she led GSU with 12 kills with a hitting percentage of .455. Senior setter Sarah Grainger ranks second in NCAA Division II in aces per set (0.69) and sixth in the MEC in assists per set (7.49). Sophomore right side Rita Kelly is second on the team in kills (208), kills per set (2.45), and total blocks (66.0). Senior outside hitter Sydney Goodrich is second on the team in digs (269) and service aces (22).
