RALLY CATS
The Mountain Lions overcame a 2-1 deficit in the final 14 minutes of Wednesday's game to pick up their first conference win of the season. Freshman forward
Ignacio Alvarez Maina scored the game-tying goal in the 77
th minute—it was the second straight home game where Alvarez scored. Junior forward
Fabian Amhof then scored off a set piece in the 81
st minute, his team-best fifth of the season. Wednesday marked the first time that CU has erased a deficit before going on to win since a 2-1 home win over Wheeling in 2019. By scoring, Amhof moved into a tie for third in the MEC in goals.
EVENLY MATCHED
Though Frostburg State owns a 5-1-2 advantage in the series, a handful of the eight all-time meetings between FSU and Concord have been close contests. Earlier this season, the Bobcats picked up a 1-0 win at home as the shots were 12-10 in favor of Frostburg State. Sophomore forward
Tomas Kelly took a team-high four. Kelly was responsible for a penalty kick goal in a 2-2 tie at Frostburg State last season. The Mountain Lions are seeking to overcome a 6-2 loss at home to Frostburg State last year.
SWEEP ON THE MIND
CU goes for the two-game season sweep of Salem Wednesday after the Mountain Lions opened the season with a convincing 3-0 victory of the Tigers. All three goals for the Maroon and Gray came in the second half. Junior midfielder
Elvis Gomez scored his only goal of the season in the win. Nicholson tallied a goal and an assist in the victory. Nicholson has recorded at least one point in two of the last three games. Kelly converted a penalty kick in the game, and like Nicholson Kelly has registered points in two of the last three games. The September contest between CU and Salem featured just 19 total shots with Concord holding a 12-7 edge.
