Concord Sweeps Salem on the Road

SALEM, W.Va. - The Concord University volleyball team began its weekend road trip with a 3-0 sweep of Salem University Friday inside T. Edwards Davis Gymnasium. 
Final Score: Concord 3, Salem 0 (25-7, 25-19. 25-19)
Set 1
Senior middle hitter Kyndra Pilant sparked a 5-0 run early in the first set collecting a kill and an ace to give CU an early 7-2 lead. Freshman setter Declyn Tooze added back-to-back aces to extend the Concord lead 11-5. The Mountain Lions closed out the first frame on a 10-0 scoring run behind an ace from freshman defensive specialist Allie Davis and two kills from freshman outside hitter Shannon Phipps, 25-7. 
Set 2
Freshman outside hitter Meg Williams and Pilant racked up two kills each to give CU the early advantage in set number two, 6-5. Williams added two more kills and an ace to grow the Mountain Lion lead to 19-15. A kill from junior defensive specialist Alexis Anzevino gave Concord a 2-0 set advantage, 25-19. 
Set 3
CU squandered the Tigers' early advantage when freshman right side Meagan Poticher smashed a pair of kills and freshman middle hitter Jasmine Anderson added another kill to shoot the Mountain Lions ahead 10-8. Concord would not trail again in the final set as Anderson added two more kills to extend the CU lead 19-14. A pair of kills from Williams completed the 3-0 sweep over Salem, 25-19. 
Match Stats
Williams and Pilant led CU with nine kills each. Williams set her new career high with four aces in the match as the Mountain Lions recorded 10 aces in the game, tying their second-best total on the season. Phipps and Anderson recorded new career highs in kills in the contest with four and three, respectively. Davis finished with 16 digs and freshman setter Paige Richmond hauled in 17 assists. 
The Mountain Lions finish their weekend road stint Saturday as they head to South Euclid, Ohio to face Notre Dame in a Mountain East Conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
