ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team will be starting off the year with a double header on the road in a non-conference matchup against Carson-Newman 12:00 p.m. Wednesday.

HIGHLIGHTING THE RETURNERS
Concord welcomes back a large number of players including graduate infielder
Sarah Thompson who led the team in batting average, sophomore infielder
Kylee Stacy who ended the year in the top 20 of all MEC players in runs scored (33). Two crucial pitchers return for Concord, including sophomore
Caitlyn Bauer who led the team in ERA with a 3.46, while striking out 134 batters in her 147.2 innings pitched and sophomore
Rachael Koller who struck out a total of 100 batters in her 133.1 innings pitched. The duo combined to win all 17 games for CU.
BAUER POWER
Bauer is coming off a solid 2022 campaign in the circle. Bauer was sixth in the MEC in strikeouts, and finished third in innings pitched. She dominated hitters with almost a strikeout per inning and ending the season in fifth in the MEC with strikeouts looking (32). Bauer is currently ranked tenth in Concord program history for ERA, and ranked ninth in strikeouts after just her first year at Concord.
RECORD WATCH
Thompson is coming up on her 100
th RBI for her career. Doing so would make her just the eighth player in program history to reach 100. Only needing one to hit the century mark, Thompson is only eight RBI away from breaking into the top six in program history. The last Concord player to reach 100 RBI was Thompson's former teammate Jenna Witt who is currently ranked fifth in program history with 135. The next closest current CU player to 100 RBI is senior catcher
Jolie Privett with 46 RBI.
RECENT HISTORY
Concord and Carson-Newman played last year at a neutral site in Due West, South Carolina as CNU Won 9-1. Fifth-year senior catcher
Mikayah Pulliam batted in CU's only run in the game. Pulliam also collected two of the four hits. The last doubleheader between the teams resulted in a series split in February 2018. Concord won 7-2 as Witt kickstarted her All-American campaign with two RBI. The Eagles won the nightcap 10-6 in eight innings.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Carson-Newman returns six starters, and brought in a total of 11 new faces to their program. The Eagles will have to find a way to replace graduated infielder Emily Harris who led the team in batting average, on-base percent, hits and doubles. A key returner for Carson-Newman is junior outfielder Macey Hughes, who led the team in RBI, walks, and home runs with a total of 14. Another returner for the Eagles is sophomore infielder Hayden Dye who put six balls over the wall and doubled 15 times while hitting .314.
