GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team lost a tough game to nationally-ranked, second-rated Glenville State, 78-69, Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at the Waco Center.
The Mountain Lions (5-12, 3-9 MEC) erased a 23-18 first-quarter deficit to lead 41-39 at halftime, but was held to 28 points in the second half by Glenville State (16-2, 10-2 MEC).
CU grabbed the halftime lead thanks in part to a shooting percentage of 56.6 (17-for-30) in the first 20 minutes.
Concord held off Glenville State in the third quarter until the Pioneers were able to take a 47-46 edge, but a three-pointer from graduate guard
Maggie Guynn gave CU the lead back at the 5:10 mark. GSU scored the final four points of the period and took a 56-53 edge to the fourth.
The teams traded three-pointers to open the fourth quarter, including a triple from senior guard
Jazz Blankenship. Glenville State found some breathing room, opening up a 63-58 advantage at the halfway point of the quarter.

Jaisah Smith closed the Mountain Lions to within 65-64 with 4:03 remaining. The teams traded scores over the next three minutes, but CU was never able to take the lead. A three-pointer from GSU with 41 seconds remaining gave the Pioneers a six-point margin.
Paced by a strong second half, J. Smith finished with 16 points. Freshman forward
Abbie Smith scored 16 points. Guynn notched 13 points with 10 coming before halftime. Blankenship tallied 12 points that included three three-pointers.
The Mountain Lions finished the game shooting 45.5 percent, and only committed 15 turnovers versus GSU's pressure.
