Concord Starts Five-Match Road Trip Wednesday at WVU Tech, Plays in Seton Hill Tournament on the Weekend

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team gears up for five matches away from the Carter Center when it travels to WVU Tech 7:00 p.m. Wednesday before a two-day, four-match tournament at the Seton Hill Tournament Friday and Saturday.

MARATHON MATCHES
The Mountain Lions played their first five-set match of the season to close out the Concord Classic Saturday at the Carter Center. CU took down Cal U (Pa.) in the fifth set, 15-12, after losing the third and fourth games to the Vulcans. Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Steele tallied her third career 20-kill match with 21 kills versus Cal U. Freshman setter Kenzee Chaffin finished five assists shy of the single-match program record for assists with 40, and junior middle hitter Kynda Pilant recorded her first career double-double (13 kills, 15 digs). Ahead of Wednesday night, the last four matches between CU and WVU Tech have gone to five sets. Last season, the teams split a home-and-home with the home side winning each time. Senior middle hitter Amber Hall had a career-best 21 kills vs. WVU Tech last season, and hit .475. Steele racked up a combined 27 kills over two matches. And junior setter Kristin Lough had 26 assists at home versus WVU Tech.

IN THE CONFERENCE RANKS
After hitting .350 or better in four of the five matches at the Concord Classic, Hall moved up to 10th in the Mountain East Conference in hitting percentage (.292). Chaffin jumped a spot in the assists per set from eighth to seventh as she is now averaging 6.9 per set. And Steele's 2.97 kills per set are eighth in the conference. After notching 10 aces in four matches, including a career-high six versus Cal U, sophomore outside hitter Gracie Brackney is ninth in the league with 0.54 aces per set.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
Two of the three wins for the Golden Bears have come in five sets—over Morningside College and Rio Grande. Wednesday night will be the home opener for WVU Tech. CU and WVU Tech have a mutual opponent in Point Park who WVU Tech lost to three sets on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES
LHU starts the weekend looking its first win of the season as it has fallen to Glenville State twice in 2022, and has also dropped a match to Davis & Elkins. The Bald Eagles are holding opponents to a .196 hitting percentage, but are hitting just .067 as a team. Gabriela Fialova leads Lock Haven in both kills (61) and digs (88).

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN CATS
Pitt-Johnstown and Concord have a mutual result in common as both sides have swept Salem this season. Entering this weekend, the last three matches for UPJ have gone either four or five sets. The Mountain Cates have a non-conference match at West Liberty Tuesday night before traveling to Seton Hill. Lualis Alvarado has 70 kills for the season, and is averaging just under three per set.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
Seton Hill is three years removed from making the NCAA Tournament, but went just 12-15 last fall. Paige Cole leads the way for SHU in 2022 with 88 kills and 98 digs. Abby Oesterling has 159 assists, an average of 5.1 per set.
