Concord Clipped by Davis & Elkins

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team lost to Davis & Elkins 2-1 Saturday night in a Mountain East Conference battle at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex.

All three goals in the game came in the first half.

The Senators (2-1, 1-1 MEC) wasted no time getting on the board as they scored 27 seconds into the contest. And D&E would go on to add a goal in the 17th minute.

The Mountain Lions struck in the 36th minute as junior defender Olivia Bekeleski found the back of the net. The Mansfield, Ohio native's first career goal came after a corner kick, and a shot from fifth-year senior forward Leah Foster was saved, but deflected to Bekeleski.

Both teams took 10 shots in the first half.

Some of the best chances in the second half for the Mountain Lions included sophomore midfielder Leah Fleming curling a shot just over the bar in the 58th minute and sophomore forward Jayme Millard missing from a close range in the 63rd minute.

Millard fired a shot off the right post in the 72nd minute and senior midfielder Courtney Smith had a shot saved in the 74th minute.

CU owned an 18-14 edge in total shot and had seven corner kicks to D&E's six. Foster registered five shots while Fleming had four shots with three on frame.

Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh made nine saves in the contest.

Concord begins a two-game road trip 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Virginia Wesleyan.
