Concord Places Second at Home Invite

PIPESTEM, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team finished second at the Concord Invite Thursday afternoon at Pipestem State Park.

Concord posted a team score of 299 as it was clipped by Glenville State (293) for the team title.

The Mountain Lions had the second and third individual finishers in senior Noah Clark and fifth-year senior Brett Laxton. Clark was two shots of the lead of Glenville State's Bumin Choi as he fired a 72. Clark's even round of par was tied for the second lowest round of the season for the Pearisburg, Virginia native.

Laxton tied for third with a 73. Laxton collected the most pars on the day (13) and averaged 4.5 on the course's four par 5s. Thursday afternoon was tied for the lowest 18-hole performance for Laxton this season.

Junior Carson Proffitt and sophomore Grant Rosenbaum both tied for ninth with 77s. Proffit played the par 4s even, and he was -1 on the par 5s. Freshman Grayson Murray was two shots behind Proffitt and Rosenbaum as he tied for 11th.

Playing as individuals, junior Michael Growe Jr. carded an 81, fellow junior Colin Wiley had an 82 and sophomore Zach Clapper shot an 84. All three were inside the top 20.

Concord is back in action Monday and Tuesday when it tees off at the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic at Berry Hills in Charleston, West Virginia.
