GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team was defeated by undefeated nationally-ranked first Glenville State, 96-53, Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference matchup held at the Waco Center.
The Mountain Lions (20-10, 13-9 MEC) were unable to keep pace early on with GSC (27-0, 22-0 MEC) as the Pioneers led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter.
A bucket at the 7:22 mark of the second quarter from fifth-year senior
Riley Fitzwater made her the all-time leading scorer in program history as she surpassed Jina Skinner (1989-92) at 2,052 points. Fitzwater finished the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds and now has 2,064 career points.
At halftime, Concord trailed 49-21.
CU shot over 40 percent in the second half, but was unable to make a run at Glenville State as GSC completed a perfect regular season.
Along with Fitzwater, junior guard
Jazz Blankenship had 10 points. Sophomore guard
Jaisah Smith finished with seven points.
Concord plays Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round of the MEC Tournament on Thursday at 8:15 p.m.
