Concord Loses Two at Bearcat/Fleet Invite

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Concord University softball team dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader in the Bearcat/Fleet Invite at the EC Softball Complex.

CU falls to 2-6 while Georgia Southwestern improves to 9-4, and Carson-Newman moves to 14-3.

Game 1: Georgia Southwestern 12 – Concord 3
The Mountain Lions struck early, but four runs in both the first and fourth innings left CU in a hole that was too great to overcome.

Concord put together an early rally when freshman third baseman Kylee Stacy singled and stole second to start the game. Freshman shortstop/utility player Courtney Raines followed Stacy with a single, advancing Stacy to third. A single from senior catcher/utility player Mikayah Pulliam drove in Stacy. Raines was able to score on the next play on an RBI groundout.

The Hurricanes answered CU's two runs by scoring four in the bottom half of the first and scored two more in the second on their way to a nine-run win. Concord got a run back in the top of the fifth when freshman second baseman/outfielder Aubrey Matice singled and came around to score.

Freshman pitcher/infielder Rachael Koller (1-3) was hit with the loss as she gave up the first four runs of the game.

Game 2: Carson-Newman: 9 – Concord 1
After Carson-Newman put up three runs in the top of the first, Pulliam sent a 2-1 pitch over the fence in right center field to put Concord on the board.

The Eagles, though, responded by scoring three runs in both the second and fourth inning. CU got two hits from Stacy and Pulliam in the bottom of the third inning, but the Mountain Lions were unable to bring them in.

Offensively, CU was limited to four hits in the game. Freshman pitcher/first baseman Caitlyn Bauer was tagged with the loss. Bauer gave up six runs and struck out two in two innings.

The Mountain Lions look to bounce back tomorrow when they face Coker at 10:30 a.m. and Lander at 6:00 p.m.
