Concord Rallies Past Pitt-Johnstown, 9-7

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team won the final game of a three-game series with Pitt-Johnstown, 9-7, Monday afternoon in a non-conference contest at Anderson Field.

The Mountain Lions (1-1-1) erased a 6-1 deficit with eight unanswered runs across the sixth and seventh innings to clinch a win in the series.

Trailing by five runs entering the sixth, three straight hits loaded the bases with no outs. Junior outfielder Josh Adkins rolled up a single back through the box to score sophomore infielder Chris Satcher and freshman infielder AJ Strickland on the play. After sophomore infielder Zack Saryeldin brought in a run with an RBI double, fifth-year senior infielder Anthony Stehlin tied the game with a two-RBI base hit into left field.

The game remained knotted at 6-6 after UPJ (1-1-1) hit into a double play with a man in scoring position to end the top of the seventh inning. Satcher was in the middle of a rally once again as he followed fifth-year senior Evan Antonellis' base hit with his third knock of the game to lead off the bottom of the seventh. A sacrifice bunt pushed both runners up 90 feet, and a Pitt-Johnstown error brought in Antonellis. Freshman catcher Joey Duffer followed with his second double of the game to plate Satcher and junior outfielder Kyle Keenan.

After freshman infielder/pitcher Jacob Nester went six innings with five strikeouts in his first career start, freshman infielder/pitcher Rylee Nicholas (1-0) slammed the door on the Mountain Cats as he allowed just one run on three hits in his three innings of relief to earn the win.

CU took a 1-0 lead through three innings, but Pitt-Johnstown scored four runs in the third inning and added two runs in the fifth to build the five-run advantage.
Saryeldin and Satcher each had three hits and two runs scored. Duffer and Saryeldin both had two doubles as Duffer finished with two hits. Adkins, Duffer and Stehlin all had two RBI.

The Mountain Lions welcome Bluefield State 12:00 p.m. Saturday for the start of a split home-and-home four-game series.
