Concord Falls at Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team was defeated in a three-set match by Glenville State, 25-23, 33-31, 25-21, at the Waco Center in a Mountain East Conference contest Friday evening.

Set 1
The Mountain Lions (7-25, 1-15 MEC) mounted a late rally, but ultimately fell short in the opening game. GSU (16-16, 5-11) controlled the game and built a 20-15 lead before the Concord comeback. Sophomore outside hitters Gracie Brackney and Hannah Steele started a 5-0 run with back-to-back kills. The momentum carried over as CU took a 22-21 lead after a kill from junior middle hitter Kyndra Pilant, but Glenville State scored four of the final five points to take the set.

Set 2
The 64-point game was the longest set for Concord since a 66-point set last season versus West Virginia Wesleyan. Neither team had a lead of more than two points throughout the game. A kill from Steele allowed Concord to go up 31-30, but the Mountain Lions were unable to close the set as GSU rattled off three straight points.

Set 3
Concord ran out to a 9-5 advantage in the set capped by a kill from senior middle hitter Amber Hall. Glenville State rebounded though to go up 16-14, eventually opening up a 21-16 margin. Concord got back as close as 22-19, but never any further.

Match Stats
Pilant finished with a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs while hitting .344. Brackney added eight kills and 12 digs. Freshman setter Kenzee Chaffin netted 21 assists and eight digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Kaylee Spees tallied 17 digs.

Friday night was the final career matches for graduate defensive specialist Kelli Ellison and Hall.
