BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team was eliminated from the Mountain East Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round by Charleston, 2-1, at the YMCA Cline Complex.
Charleston (10-9) used two goals from Sydney Cavender—one on a set piece—in the first half to take a 2-0 lead at halftime. The goals came in the 25
th and 38
th minutes.
The Golden Eagles held a 6-4 edge in shots at halftime as Concord's (12-5-2) best chance came from graduate forward
Leah Foster in the 11
th minute on a 1 vs. 1 opportunity, but she was turned away.
The Mountain Lions caught a break in the 51
st minute when UC goalkeeper Jordan Maynard was sent off on a red card on a challenge outside the penalty box. Despite being a man down, UC held Concord without a shot until a heading attempt by sophomore midfielder

th minute.

Reeanna Cook had a shot saved in the 82
nd minute, but the Mountain Lions were able to break through in the 84
th minute.
Senior defender
Zoe Belding was taken down in the penalty box to earn a PK for CU. Cook stepped up and converted her fourth goal of the season to trim the deficit in half. However, the Mountain Lions were unable to get a shot off over the final six minutes.
Charleston held a 10-7 edge in shots. All three of Cook's shots were on goal.
Graduate goalkeeper
Leah Marsh made two saves in the game.
CU has been in contention for an NCAA Tournament berth throughout the season, and will have to wait until Monday night to see if it has been selected.
