RECORDS
Concord is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MEC after defeats by King and Frostburg State to open the season.
West Liberty sports a mark of 1-1 overall and is 0-1 in the conference. WLU lost to Charleston in the MEC opener, but defeated Mercyhurst in the first game of the season.
Davis & Elkins won its only game of the season, a 1-0 victory over Salem.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown stopped nine shots in his season debut against King. The Warren, Ohio native continues to close in on the program's all-time saves lead, currently held by Mitchell Thompson (2012-15) with 282 saves. Brown stands 43 saves away from breaking Thompson's mark, and Brown has also collected the eighth-most saves (240) among active Division II goalies. In the spring versus Davis & Elkins, Brown was able to stop the first seven shots he faced against the Senators before D&E was able to slip a double overtime goal past. Â Brown has 10 career saves over three games versus West Liberty and also posted a shutout against the Hilltoppers at the beginning of the 2019 season.
CLOSE SERIES
Concord and West Liberty have met five times in men's soccer as WLU's program is still relatively new—in its fourth season of existence. The Mountain Lions have won three of the five matchups despite WLU winning 3-0 in the spring season. Concord owns a +2 goal differential against West Liberty in the all-time head-to-head series. CU swept the Hilltoppers 3-0 and 2-1 in 2018 before the teams split two contests in 2019 with Concord picking up the aforementioned shutout, 2-0. Junior midfielder
Michael Shelor scored his first career goal in the victory. Shelor also assisted on senior forward
Daniel Culverwell's goal in a 2-1 loss at home in 2019. The road team has won the last three meetings in the series.
LOOKING FOR REDEMPTION
Since Davis & Elkins joined the league, two of the three contests between the Mountain Lions and Senators have been decided by one goal including the spring matchup requiring two overtime sessions. However, CU has been on the losing end of all three games. Culverwell and sophomore midfielder
Robbie Stiles each had a shot on goal in the defeat to the Senators in the spring with Stiles nearly winning for the Mountain Lions early in double overtime.
WEST LIBERTY AT A GLANCE
Adam Lynch had a goal and an assist in the 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst. Vitor Otsuka and Mikel Ubeda who both scored against CU in the spring also netted goals in the win for the Hilltoppers. Noah Underwood has been pressed into making seven saves. The game at Concord will be the start of a three-game road trip for West Liberty that sees it also go to Frostburg State and Notre Dame.
DAVIS & ELKINS AT A GLANCE
Under first-year head coach Dean Johnson, the Senators went 7-2 in the spring season with their only losses coming to the two teams that played for the MEC Championship—Charleston and Notre Dame. In the 1-0 win versus Salem, Davis & Elkins outshot the Tigers, 19-1, but did not find the back of the net until the 89
th minute. D&E also took 16 corner kicks in its season opener.
