RECORDS
CU is 0-6 this season as it was edged by West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday, 2-1.
Shaw is 1-3 this season with its lone win against Salem.
TWO-WAY PLAY
Freshman defender
Esteban Correa netted his first career goal versus WVWC as he knocked in a goal after a corner kick in the 14
th minute. Correa becomes the second CU defender to score this season after sophomore
Ezequiel Villarreal banged in a goal against Notre Dame. It's the first time since the 2018 season that two Mountain Lion defenders have scored in back-to-back games. Matt Henderson scored against Urbana in the second game of the season while Josh Sheffield found the goal the next game at Shepherd. Villarreal has played in all five games this season, having started the last two at left back while Correa has started all five games as a central defender alongside junior
Daniel Haworth.
DIFFERENT FACE
Sunday will be the first time Concord plays a non-conference opponent not named King since the end of the 2018 season. The Mountain Lions' lone 2019 non-Mountain East Conference game was a 1-0 victory over the Tornado at home. And to open this season, CU traveled to King. At the end of the 2018 campaign, the Mountain Lions captured a 6-2 home win over Bluefield College. Senior defender
Adrian Cabello had an assist in the victory over BC. In his last two non-conference games, fifth-year senior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown has made 11 saves including stopping nine shots against King to begin 2021. Sunday will be the first time CU faces Shaw in program history.
SHAW AT A GLANCE
The Bears have only scored one goal since their season-opening 4-0 win at Salem. Shaw will only have one home game that comes at the beginning of October. Wissem Obeid has two assists this season, both coming against Salem. This season is just the fifth year of men's soccer for Shaw with the program being formed in 2016 and competition started the following year. Shaw has 20 program wins over that time frame.
