RECORDS
Concord is 2-4 on the season after a 1-0 double overtime loss to Alderson Broaddus
Charleston is nationally-ranked number one according to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Coaches Poll. UC is 6-0.
TAKING A CHANCE
The Mountain Lions had a season-high 12 shots in the defeat against Alderson Broaddus and was one of their season best in shots on goal with five attempts. Five different for Concord had two shots in the game: freshman midfielder
Ricardo Chinea, junior forward
Daniel Culverwell, junior midfielder
Tomas Fanello, junior midfielder
Diego Marti Perez and freshman midfielder
Robbie Stiles. CU produced six shots in each half against the Battlers. Both Chinea and Stiles came off the bench to tally their shots in the contest. Perez against Frostburg State is the only other time this season that Concord has had a player have two or more shots off the bench.
BRICK WALL
Freshman goalkeeper
Sean Monro has continued to be hard to score against as CU ranks in a tie for fourth in the MEC in goals allowed with seven. Monro's 22 saves are third in the conference and his .786 save percentage is tied for first in the MEC with Charleston's Marc Torrado. Though Concord allowed a season-high 22 shots to Alderson Broaddus, CU's backline defense of freshmen
Sacha Everard and
Vinay Gadde and sophomores
Daniel Haworth and
Jesse Kannekens as well as junior
Tristan Bragg off the bench only gave up seven shots on goal to Alderson Broaddus. Concord has yet to allow an opponent to reach double-digit shots on goal this season.
STRENGTH ON STRENGTH
The Mountain Lions' defense will be tested by Charleston—the MEC's highest-scoring offense this season with 29 goals. The next closest in goals scored is Davis & Elkins with 11. UC has scored at least three goals in five of six games while Concord has only allowed more than one goal in two games. Friday night's matchup with the seventh consecutive time CU plays the Golden Eagles when they are ranked in the top 10 nationally. During the 2018 season, Concord only lost 1-0 to a Charleston team that was slotted seventh in Division II.
CHARLESTON AT A GLANCE
Christos Charalambous leads Charleston in scoring with six goals while Adam Burchell is right behind with five. The duo ranks first and second in the conference in goals scored. Though Torrado is among the league leaders in save percentage, he has only had to make 11 saves in six games. Last season, the Golden Eagles beat Concord twice as they recorded a shutout in each win.
