RECORDS
The Mountain Lions are 0-2 this season, but both defeats have come by a goal.
Frostburg State rebounded from a loss to Charleston to defeat Wheeling, and run its record to 1-1.
ON THE BOARD
Freshman midfielder
Ricardo Chinea scored his first career goal on Sunday at West Virginia Wesleyan as he cut Concord's deficit to 2-1 in the 72
nd minute before the Mountain Lions fell by the same score line. It marked the second straight year that a CU player has tallied their first career goal in their first career road game. Last season, sophomore midfielder
Michael Shelor notched his first goal in a 2-0 win at West Liberty, September 11, 2019. Chinea also had Concord's lone shot on goal against WVWC.
ON THE DEFENSIVE
In last season's second all-time meeting between Concord and Frostburg State, the sides played to a scoreless draw in the first home conference game of the 2019 season. The Mountain Lions outshot FSU, 15-11, but the Bobcats held a slight 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Junior forward
Daniel Culverwell accounted for four shots in the contest. In the last game played in Beckley for CU, Culverwell had a shot on goal in a 1-0 double overtime loss to Davis & Elkins. Senior goalkeeper
Kyle Brown made five saves in last season's 0-0 tie with Frostburg State to keep the game scoreless.
LIMITED CHANCES
Through two weeks of play in the MEC, only one team has scored more than five goals, Charleston, while the other eight schools in the league are at four or less. CU is tied for fourth in the conference in goals allowed with four. The three defenders of freshman
Sacha Everard and sophomores
Daniel Haworth and
Jesse Kannekens have yet to come off the field this season while freshmen defenders
Valentin Fernandez and
Vinay Gadde have split time at the other defending position. If Haworth and Kannekens find their names in the starting lineup Friday, it would be the 20
th consecutive starts for both—having never missed a game in the Maroon and Gray.
FROSTBURG STATE AT A GLANCE
Friday will be Frostburg State's first road trip of the season. The Bobcats dropped their home opener to Charleston, 8-0, before responding with a 2-0 home victory over Wheeling. Tamino Brown and Vaughn Phillips were the goal scorers for FSU in its win. The Bobcats have only gotten off nine total shots this season, but seven have been on target. Bryce Costello and Will Macomber each had an assists against Wheeling.
