Game 1: Lander 8 – Concord 0
LU scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take a 6-0 lead on its way to a game one win.
After the Bearcats plated three runs in the first inning, Concord threatened to cut into the lead in the second as two walks put Mountain Lions on base with one out, but Lander was able to get out of the frame without CU scoring.
Junior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson collected a hit at the plate and struck out five over 4.1 innings as the pitcher of record.
Game 2: Lander 4 – Concord 3
The Mountain Lions took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, but was unable to hold off a Lander rally in the frame as it was clipped by one run.
Each team scored in the first inning as Thompson crossed on a sacrifice fly from senior utility
Jenna Witt. Thompson was in the middle of the offense again in the third inning as CU took a 2-1 lead. Senior outfielder/pitcher
Darby Fitzpatrick came around to score on Thompson's RBI triple after a leadoff single.
Lander tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, but once again the Mountain Lions had a response in the top of the sixth.
Thompson reached to start the sixth inning, and advanced to third on consecutive sacrifices. With two outs, junior third baseman/outfielder
Sarah Thompson drove her sister in with a single into center field.
The Bearcats were able to scratch across two runs on three hits in the home half, including two doubles in a three-batter stretch to grab a 4-3 edge.
A single from junior first baseman
Tiara Peters and a double by Fitzpatrick put the go-ahead run in scoring position with one out in the seventh, but Lander kept CU off the scoreboard to close out the game.
Fitzpatrick and L. Thompson each had two hits with both recording an extra-base hit.
Sophomore pitcher/outfielder
Josie Brewer (0-1) struck out three in six innings, allowing six hits and four runs.
CU is back in action 1:00 p.m. Thursday for a road doubleheader against Erskine.
