Concord Races Past Frostburg State, 78-47

Athens, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball team defeated Frostburg State (2-8, 1-5 MEC), 78-47, Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference matchup at the Carter Center.

Junior guard Jazz Blankenship started the scoring for CU (6-3, 3-3 MEC) by hitting a mid-range jumper and following it up with a layup on the next possession. Sophomore guard Maddie Ratcliff knocked down three free throws in the quarter. Fifth-year senior forward Riley Fitzwater canned eight points in the first frame. Concord led 21-17 after the first quarter.

The Mountain Lions started the second quarter by sinking multiple three-pointers coming from both sophomore guard Jaisah Smith and senior guard Maggie Guynn. Smith canned seven points in the quarter. Concord outscored Frostburg State, 16-9 in the second frame. The Mountain Lions shot 53.6 percent from the field in the first half. CU led 37-26 at the halftime break.

After halftime, Concord continued to extend their lead. CU outscored the Bobcats, 41-19 in the half. Ratcliff led the Mountains Lions in points, scoring 15 points in the game. Fitzwater finished with 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Blankenship canned 10 points and tallied three steals. Guynn shot 5-7 from the field and finished with 13 points. Smith and redshirt junior Alexis Phillips finished with six rebounds each.

Concord shot a season-best 54.4 percent from the field, and held Frostburg State to 27.3 percent from the field.

With the win, Concord finishes a perfect 12-0 at home in 2021. The Mountain Lions now have a 22-game win streak when playing at the Carter Center.

The Mountain Lions travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to play in the Malika Sports Christmas Tournament against Hawaii Pacific on Thursday and Alaska Anchorage on Friday.
