Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Concord Clips Alderson-Broaddus, 75-73

ATHENS, W.Va. – Fifth-year senior guard Matt Weir sunk an eight-foot jump shot with 32 seconds left to help push the Concord University men's basketball team past Alderson-Broaddus, 75-73, Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference game at the Carter Center.

The Mountain Lions (4-4, 2-1 MEC) controlled the first half and a large portion of the second, but Alderson-Broaddus (3-3, 1-2 MEC) hung around and took a 60-57 lead with 7:37 left in the game—the first advantage of the contest.

Still trailing 62-58, Weir strung together six straight points with a three-pointer and an old-school three-point play to give CU a 64-62 edge with 4:56 remaining.

Consecutive jumpers by fifth-year senior forward Lual Daniel Rahama untied the game and gave the Mountain Lions a 70-66 lead with 1:37 left, but A-B answered with a three-pointer on the next possession and then tied the game with 60 second remaining at 71-71.

After the two foul shots from the Battlers to knot the game, Weir probed the defense and hit the game-deciding jumper with the shot clock winding down.

Concord forced a turnover on the ensuing possession, and junior guard Ethan Heller was able to seal the game at the foul line with seven seconds remaining.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead and A-B could only tie the score in the first half as CU led by as much as nine points, two different times. However, the Battlers finished the opening 20 minutes on a 14-5 run to tie the game at 33-33 at halftime.

From there, neither side led by more than two possessions in the second half.

Weir finished a point off his career high with 21 while adding six rebounds. Rahama chipped in 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Senior forward Da'Vion Moore finished a rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Heller's two late free throws also pushed him into double figures with 11 points.

Junior guard Jevon Laidler had just five points, but match Moore for the team in rebounds with nine.

Concord finished plus-seven on the glass (42-35) and held A-B to 38.5 percent from the field. The Maroon and Gray hit on 42.4 percent of their shots (28-for-66).

CU takes its three-game winning streak on the road to Notre Dame 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
