Beckley, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team downed Glenville State 6-0 on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex in Beckley, West Virginia.
Concord's first score came on own goal from GSC (4-14, 3-13 MEC) in the 34
th minute when fifth-year midfielder
Yasmin Mosby crossed a pass through the box that was misplayed by a Glenville State defender and booted into her own net. That would be the Mountain Lions lone goal of the first half. Concord (15-0-3, 13-0-3 MEC) outshot the Pioneers 17-0 during the first 45 minutes.
The flood gates opened in the second half when
Courtney Smith put a shot into the bottom corner of the net for her third of the season. Mosby was credited with the assist. Two minutes later, Smith found freshman midfielder
Anna Davis in front of the net to score her third of the season.
In the 68
th minute, Mosby added her name to the scoring column with a goal that snuck through the goalkeepers' legs. It is Mosby's 19
th goal of the season, and she surpassed 100 career points with the score. Mosby's goal was assisted by junior defender
Zoe Belding. Senior forward
Leah Foster increased Concord's lead to five with a rocket into the top right corner of the net off a pass from freshman midfielder
Nora Voisey.
The final goal from Concord came on a scramble in front of the net when senior defender
Jillian Holt's shot was blocked by a Pioneer defender. The rebound was then put into the net by senior midfielder
Jordan Edmonds.
Senior goalkeeper
Leah Marsh had a quiet night on her Senior Day. Glenville State didn't record a shot on goal. Concord outshot the Pioneers 45-2 (16-0 for shots on goal).
Concord hosts either Fairmont State or Notre Dame in the MEC semifinals on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the YMCA Paul Cline Complex in Beckley, West Virginia.
