INDIANA, Pa. – The Concord University men's basketball team fell to nationally-ranked Indiana (Pa.) 98-78 Saturday night as part of the IRMC/Hilton Garden Inn Classic inside the Kovalchick Athletic Complex.
IUP (2-0) started the game on a 22-5 run over the first seven minutes. However, Concord (0-2) was able to slowly cut into the deficit as it outscored the Crimson Hawks 25-15 over the next 10 minutes to make it a 37-30 contest after two free throws from sophomore forward
Luken Hill.
But IUP raised the deficit back to double figures, 45-34, at halftime.
The Mountain Lions were able to get the margin back to 10 points twice in the early stages of the second half as junior guard
Ethan Heller drained a three-pointer at the 19:20 mark of the second half to make it a 47-37 deficit. And a jumper by fifth-year senior forward Lual Daniel Raham made it 49-49 a minute later.
Concord was never able to get the deficit inside single digits for the remainder of the game.
Heller canned four three-pointers as he finished with 18 points. Rahama also had 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Fifth-year senior guard
Matt Weir hit four three-pointers to aide his 14 points. Hill came off the bench to score a career-best 10 points.
After hitting 16 three-pointers in the season opener, CU made another 12 triples Saturday night.
The Mountain Lions open the home portion of their schedule 7:30 p.m. Tuesday versus Bluefield State.
