ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team cruised to a sweep of Salem, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20, Thursday night in a non-conference matchup at the Carter Center.
CU improves to 5-12 this season while Salem drops to 3-18.
Set 1
With the teams trading points throughout the opening, the largest lead the Mountain Lions opened up was five, 15-10. But, Salem answered back to cut the margin to two, 19-17. Concord was able to create breathing by scoring four straight points with three points coming on SU attack errors.
Set 2
The Tigers hung around in the middle game as Concord was unable to pull away in the early stages. However, three straight points at 15-11 opened up a seven-point advantage for CU. Kills by junior middle hitter

Hannah Steele accounted for the scoring. A Steele kill put the set away.
Set 3
CU scored nine of the first 12 points of the game as Hall and Steele combined for the final six Concord points during the spurt. The Maroon and Gray upped the lead to nine, 19-10, after back-to-back kills from senior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron and Steele. Salem fought back to cut an eight-point deficit to four, 24-20. However, Hall's 11
th kill of the match secured the win.
Match Stats
Steele notched her fourth double-double of the year with 15 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter
Imani Rodgers added a double-double of 25 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore setter
Kristin Lough just missed her own double-double (15 assists, seven digs). Herron joined Hall and Steele in double figures with 11 kills as she hit .563 for the match.
Senior outside hitter
Jessica King matched her career high with eight kills. Senior defensive specialist
Kelli Ellison chipped in 17 digs.
The Mountain Lions hit .264 in the match, including .300 or better in the final two sets.
Concord resumes Mountain East Conference play 7:00 p.m. Friday versus Frostburg State.
