Concord Loses at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University football team lost a 48-3 decision to Charleston Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Laidley Field.

UC (5-1, 5-1 MEC) jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter as Concord (2-4, 2-4 MEC) answered early in the second on a 31-yard field goal from sophomore kicker Giovanni Christiano. The Golden Eagles responded with two more touchdowns in the final 12 minutes of the first half before adding three scores in the second half.

For a second consecutive game, junior wide receiver Kris Copeland went over 100 yards rushing as he finished with 110 yards on the ground on just 14 attempts, an average of 7.9 per carry.

Fifth-year senior wide receiver Tywan Pearce grabbed seven receptions for 58 yards.

Fifth-year senior linebacker Dwain Porterfield collected a season-high 13 tackles. Senior defensive back Rashon Lusane added eight tackles and a tackle for loss. All six tackles for junior linebacker Ty Maust came in the first half.

The Mountain Lions host West Virginia State 1:00 p.m. October 23.
