GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team cruised to a straight sets win over Glenville State, 25-15, 25-15, 25-12, Tuesday night in a Mountain East Conference contest at the Waco Center.
Set 1
CU (4-9, 1-4 MEC) scored seven of the first nine points of the match, and then reeled off another run in the middle of the game to create separation. After the Pioneers (1-9, 0-5 MEC) tied the set at 10-10, Concord scored seven of the next eight points to go up 17-11 as it never saw the lead get under four points for the remainder of the game.
Set 2
The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the middle game behind a pair of kills from junior middle hitter
Amber Hall as well as a pair of service aces from senior setter
Imani Rodgers. With CU up 17-5, Glenville State cut the deficit to 17-10. However, Concord limited the run to win by 10 points once again.
Set 3
Hanging onto a 9-6 lead, the next six points of the match went to CU as senior middle hitter
Sheridan Herron chipped in two kills. The lead grew to 22-9 after a kill each from Hall and freshman outside hitter
Hannah Steele as well as an ace from Herron. The 13-point lead held up as the final margin of victory for Concord to complete the sweep.
Match Stats
Steele had 14 kills and hit .481 for the match with Hall just behind, checking in with nine kills and a hitting percentage of .438. Herron had five kills and six digs. Rodgers racked up 25 assist. Freshman defensive specialist
Kaylee Spees tallied three service aces, all in the first set, while adding eight digs.
The Mountain Lions welcome Wheeling 6:00 p.m. Friday for a conference matchup.
