Concord Defeated by Alderson Broaddus

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's basketball team dropped a 75-66 decision to Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at the Carter Center.

The Mountain Lions (3-3) raced out to a 23-16 advantage over the first 12 minutes as it led by seven at the 8:49 mark. Concord was able to build the early lead by assisting on seven of nine made field goals.

However, Concord was neutralized by AB (3-3) as the Battlers opened up a 28-23 lead at the 4:57 mark of the first half.

Alderson Broaddus continued to hold the lead throughout the remainder of the first half, and was up 39-31 at the intermission.

Down by a game-high nine pints, 46-37, with 17:10 remaining, CU closed the gap to three, 51-48, at the 11:42 mark after two free throws from junior guard Brandon Kennedy. From there, the teams traded buckets as Concord trailed by either three or five over the next 6:03 of the contest.

The Battlers went up seven with 5:12 left in the game, and CU never got closer than six points for the remainder of the contest.

Junior guard Seth Brown led the scoring for Concord with 13 points. Junior forward Da'Vion Moore came off the bench to score 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting in 20 minutes of action. Kennedy and senior forward Liam Evans each tallied 10 points with Kennedy just missing a double-double—adding eight rebounds.

Junior forward Mohamed Bundu nearly had his second straight double-double as he notched eight points and grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds.

Concord held a 31-30 edge on the glass, but AB shot 49 percent, including 57.6 percent in the first half while CU was just 39.6 percent (21-for-53) from the floor.

The Mountain Lions are scheduled to host Frostburg State 4:30 p.m. Saturday, January 30.
