Concord Falls to Clarion

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team was unable to complete its comeback in a 7-6 loss to Clarion Friday afternoon at the MEC-PSAC Mixer at the Sue Morris Complex.

Trailing 6-1 after going into the bottom of the second after Clarion (1-7) posted five runs in the top of the second, the Mountain Lions (3-4) began their rally.

Sophomore outfielder Josh Adkins dropped a single into right field in the bottom of the second to score freshman catcher Nick Funk. With the bases loaded for junior infielder Anthony Stehlin was hit by a pitch to bring in senior outfielder Adam Linkous.

Down 7-3 in the sixth, Concord scored three times. Four straight CU batters reached to start the inning as Linkous brought in redshirt freshman outfielder Richard Ortiz who started the rally with a leadoff walk. After Adkins kept the line moving with another single, Stehlin was hit for a second time with the bases loaded. Following Stehlin was an infield single from senior infielder Ryan Fralin as his hit scored junior infielder Evan Antonellis.

Within a run of Clarion after the sixth-inning rally, Concord was retired in order in the seventh and eighth innings. In the ninth, the Mountain Lions got a two-out single from Ortiz, but was unable to tie the game.

Adkins, Linkous and Stehlin all had two hits as CU collected 10 hits.

Senior pitcher Bryson Booher (1-1) was charged with the loss as he struck out five in four innings, but gave up six runs.

Junior pitcher Logan Morrison and sophomore pitcher Tucker Perry combined to strike out six Clarion batters in relief.

Concord takes on Lock Haven 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
