GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team beat Mansfield, 6-4, Saturday afternoon in the MEC-PSAC Mixer at the Sue Morris Complex.
Freshman catcher
Nick Funk's go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth was the difference in the contest as Concord (3-2) kept Mansfield (2-3) off the board in its final three at-bats.
Down 2-1 in the fourth, senior infielder
Nathan Neff poked a single that scored junior infielder
Evan Antonellis to tie the game. In the next CU at-bat, Antonellis was in the middle of the action as he sent a double into left field that allowed senior catcher
Jakob Divers and redshirt freshman outfielder
Richard Ortiz to score.
The fifth-inning rally started with two outs on consecutive singles by Divers and Ortiz before the Antonellis double.
The Mountaineers answered in the top of the sixth as they plated a pair of runs to knot the game back up at 4-4. But again with two outs in bottom of the sixth, Funk blasted his first career home run, scoring senior outfielder
Adam Linkous to give Concord a 6-4 advantage.
After giving up one of the two runs in the sixth to MU, junior pitcher
Logan Morrison (1-0) kept Mansfield scoreless in the seventh.
Junior pitcher
Spencer Hoyt and sophomore pitcher
Tucker Perry tossed scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively to preserve the CU victory. Perry notched his first save of the season by striking out two batters in the ninth.
Morrison was credited with the win as he pitched two innings of relief, striking out two. Senior pitcher
Bryson Booher struck out five in five innings in his start on the mound.
The Mountain Lions' first run came on an RBI single from senior outfielder
Ryan Fralin in the first inning that scored junior infielder
Anthony Stehlin.
Neff had two of the seven Concord hits in the contest while Antonellis and Funk each drove in two runs.
