GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Concord University women's basketball team fell to Division I UNC-Greensboro in an exhibition, 80-45, Saturday afternoon at Flemming Gymnasium.
After the Spartans opened the game on a 10-2 run, Concord went stride-for-stride with UNCG over the final 6:36 of the first quarter and trailed just 19-13 after 10 minutes. The Mountain Lions was 3-for-4 from three-point range in the opening quarter.
Freshman guard
Jazz Blankenship hit her second three-pointer of the game at the 9:25 mark of the second quarter to draw CU within 20-16 of UNC-Greensboro. However, the Spartans limited Concord to three points over the remainder of the second period to carry a 44-19 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Concord was only outscored by 10 points, 36-26, as UNCG went on to win by the final 35-point margin.
Senior forward
Madison May led CU in scoring with 11 points. Sophomore guard
Maggie Guynn chipped in 10 points.
The Mountain Lions were only outrebounded 34-32. Junior forward
Riley Fitzwater grabbed six rebounds while sophomore guard
Gracie Robinson added five boards.
Concord returns to Mountain East Conference action 5:30 p.m. Wednesday as it hosts West Liberty at the Carter Center.
